This is a post for those of you who are sick of girly, girly pink rooms. I often hear parents complaining that there are no modern, hip, non-gendered choices for children's furniture in Istanbul. When looking to create an alternative, cool look for our kids rooms, we sometimes have to scour the city for simple, scandinavian-ish, non-disney products. Sure, one could order stuff online or have things made by a "marangoz" (Turkish people have a phone number for at least one carpenter, one upholsterer and one house painter on their iphones) but, really, why go to all that trouble when you could re-do your little hipster's room in a day?
The trick is to just pick and choose items that are not pink and balance out the cutesy stuff with products that are not necessarily from the kids section. Here are my favourite cool kid products below.
As always none of these items will break the bank and with the right bold combination and maybe a black chalk paint accent wall, your 6 year old will be on the road to hipness from a good early age. If you need additional inspiration you can check out my two favourite design blogs: Mommo Design and Apartment Therapy.
All of my picks are from IKEA, Zara Home, H&M Home and Nanu Bedtime...and all are sold here in Turkey. Enjoy...
P.S. If you are looking for the cool clothing equivalent of these stylish items, then check out a Turkish fashion label for kids that I adore...These clothes are not only hip and fun, they are exceptionally comfortable...I will post separetely about them soon: YOYO Everyday!!
P.P.S. Both Nanu Bedtime and YoYo Everyday were founded by outstandingly creative Istanbulite female entrepreneurs!
