This is supposed to be a blog about all things simple...I am supposed to like ALL THINGS simple...But I fear that deep inside me there exists a maximalist eclectic decor monster that just wants to scream "Less is not MORE you fool...LESS IS JUST LESS...MORE IS MORE!" And when this inner decor demon finds itself a new place of worship, she is happy. She declares Kit Kemp the new "Queen of the Castle" and all minimalists are declared "dirty rascals". A recent stay at the Firmdale Hotel Group's London Ham Yard Hotel has changed me forever. I have learned the name Kit Kemp...I will never decorate the same again...you fools...(evil laugh)
First of all, the "queen", "castle", "fool", "demon", "place of worship" metaphors were not necessarily inspired by my new-found love of the heavenly Ms. Kit Kemp and her designs ...it is more due to the fact that my daughters have been watching and acting out a lot of scenes from my least favourite (and their most favourite) cartoon WINX for the past week. It appears that the biggest diss in WINX is "you fool"!?!? I think I really should banish these horrid WINX from our Queendom soon.
On a recent trip to London we as a family fell in love with the eclectic, colourful, beautifully coordinated designs of Kit Kemp. She is true a magician. She puts things that should normally not work together and makes them all work together beautifully. First, she works with an abundance of colour and pattern and texture... she then probably steps back from her work and says..."hmmmm...this needs some MORE...how can I add some more colour, pattern and textures?". Her work is the epitome of MORE IS MORE.
Check out the Firmdale Hotels website to find your next Kit Kemp destination and to find out more about her work.
And as always...read on to the end to see my picks of Kit Kemp'ish additions to your home from local online retailers Pera Bulvarı and Altinci Cadde.
