In my previous post I praised the Breton striped top and hopefully inspired you to get yourself a few striped pieces. Here are a few of my favorite Breton stripes from the spring summer 2014 collections. All are easily available in international brick and mortar or online stores.
If you are lucky enough to have a COS (Collection of Style - www.cosstores.com ) store in your city then I recommend that you head there right away to try on at least four or five of their various styles. You will definitely find one that works for you.
Zorlu Shopping Center in Istanbul has a beautiful COS store with carefully selected and trained staff members who know the merchandise well and who are always very helpful yet always cool and calm.
The Turkish Mavi Jeans store in Zorlu is also one of my favorites. I will write further about their collections in a future post but in terms of store layout, stock management, staff selection, training and overall customer service they are raising the bar for other retailers in Turkey. Yesterday I witnessed a sales representative fill out a tax-free form for 3.5 Turkish Liras (this is the equivalent of one pound or two dollars) with a straight face and helpful attitude throughout. Also, it takes the staff about 60 seconds to find a size and bring it to you from the floor or the stock room. This too is a rare treat. Congratulations MAVI you are splendid squared to date in my books...
One final word on stripes…all striped tops are not created equal and although this is a simply elegant/stylish look to pull off, in order to achieve splendid you really must try on a few to see which one is really, really flattering. Four of the five models I tried on yesterday looked horrid…one gave me vertigo, the other made me look like I was carrying a very wide load (if you know what I mean).
Take a look at the gallery below to find styles I've selected for women and kids from COS, GAP, H&M, MAVI and ASOS...
